[Video] “Dying is Not as Bad as You Think”

In this BBC Ideas video here, Dr. Kathryn Mannix offers the opinion, backed by her vast experience and groundbreaking work in palliative care, that it is time for us to talk about dying and reclaim our wisdom on the subject.
A retired palliative care doctor, Dr. Mannix says, “We’ve stopped talking about dying. We’ve stopped mentioning the D words. Instead of saying ‘dead’ we say ‘passed’ or ‘passed away.'”

She continues, “Instead of saying ‘dying’ we might say ‘seriously ill.’ And families don’t understand that death is approaching when those words are used.” In this video, Dr. Mannix provides ideas on how we can help remedy situations such as this and be more comfortable with the subject of death.

We would like to thank Dr. Mannix for sharing her knowledge and ideas for all of us to learn from here. We would also  like to thank the BBC for permitting us to use this video for educational purposes on our website.
