Causes We Support

There are several causes we support at Harrison’s: charitably, via sponsorships, as signatories, and as allies.

Over the years, we have contributed to various worthy charities and causes. All of these are in line with what is important to us as a team; locally, nationally and worldwide. Below are some of the causes and organisations we are proud to support.

CHARITIES

Royal British Legion

The Royal British Legion has been supporting service men and women, veterans and their families since 1921, and is committed to bringing the nation together in support of our armed forces community.

At Harrison Funeral Home we recognise and value the work the Royal British Legion does in supporting those who serve and have served our country. As an organisation, we annually contribute financially to the RBL and hold various fundraising and awareness activities throughout the year.

To learn more about, or to donate to the Royal British Legion, please see their website here.

SUICIDE PREVENTION MEMBERSHIPS

As funeral directors, we sadly encounter suicide all too often.

We have real-world experience of how suicide can leave a lasting impact. As such, we are very much advocates for helping those in need and believe it is every person’s daily responsibility to help reduce suicide across the UK.

National Suicide Prevention Alliance

Harrison Funeral Home is a member of the National Suicide Prevention Alliance (NSPA).

The NSPA is an alliance of over 1,700 individuals and public, private, voluntary and community organisations in England who care about suicide prevention and are willing to take action to reduce suicide and support those affected by suicide.

Please see our page on the NSPA website for further details, here.

Zero Suicide Alliance

Harrison Funeral Home is also a member of the Zero Suicide Alliance (ZSA).

The ZSA aims to empower, educate, and equip individuals and organisations to support suicide awareness and prevention. Working in collaboration and partnership with a wide range of people and organisations, ZSA brings together different skills and expertise which helps ensure the work being done meets the needs of different groups of people.

Please see the ZSA website for further details, here.

SPONSORSHIPS

Bush Hill Park Club

We are longtime sponsors of Bush Hill Park Club, an amateur sporting and community social association founded in 1912 with a rich history and based in Enfield, North London.

Home to historic Bowls and Tennis clubs, as well as other sporting activities such as Snooker, Darts and Table Tennis, Bush Hill Park Club has survived two World Wars and is a thriving club today.

We support them because they are an especially important part of Enfield’s history and continue to provide a local venue where people can get together, both actively and socially.  Harrison’s Managing Director, Mark Catchpole, is on the Club’s Board of Directors.

To find out more about Bush Hill Club, please see their website here.

SIGNATORIES & PLEDGES

Sue Ryder's Statutory Paid Bereavement Leave Campaign

At Harrison Funeral Home we believe that that everyone deserves the right to statutory paid bereavement leave.

Paid bereavement leave in the UK bereavement is not statutory. This means it is up to employers to decide how much time you are allowed off work when someone you love dies, and some employers do not grant any time off at all. Those on zero-hour contracts or the self-employed may find themselves ‘forced’ to continue working throughout a bereavement to avoid financial trouble.

We will all experience bereavement at some point in our lives. We fully support Sue Ryder’s campaign for the government to introduce two weeks’ statutory paid bereavement leave for all UK employees after the loss of a close relative or partner. Find out more about Sue Ryder’s campaign, here.

Armed Forces Covenant

Harrison Funeral Home has signed the Armed Forces Covenant.

The Armed Forces Covenant is a pledge that we acknowledge and understand that those who serve or who have served in the armed forces, and their families, should be treated with fairness and respect in the communities, economy and society they serve with their lives.

Harrison Funeral is committed to honouring the Armed Forces Covenant and supporting the Armed Forces Community. We recognise the value Serving Personnel, both Regular and Reservists, Veterans and military families contribute to our business and our country.

Harrison’s has proudly supported our troops since day one of our organisation. We are pleased to have officially put pen to paper to cement our commitment.

LGBTQ+ ALLYSHIP

Harrison Funeral Home is, and has always been, an ally to the LGBTQ+ community.

As well as actively being an equal opportunities employer, we work to implement real, positive change for the LGBTQ+ community within the funeral sector.

We believe that showing support for the LGBT+ community and celebrating Pride Month are not trends, and should not be treated as such.

When we display our rainbow logo, this is to visibly signpost our support of the LGBT+ community, whilst making equality, inclusion, and diversity our priority year-round.

To find out more, please see our dedicated LGBT+ Funerals page.
