Traditional Greek Orthodox Funerals & Services
We understand that Greek Orthodox funerals have several rich traditions and requirements and typically include the following elements:
Viewing: Family and friends gather to pay their respects to the deceased and offer condolences to the family.
Trisagion: A short prayer service that is held on the evening before the funeral.
Funeral Service: The funeral service is typically held in the Greek Orthodox Church and includes readings from the Bible, prayers, and hymns.
Burial: The burial usually takes place immediately following the funeral service.
Where required, we provide the wine, oil, koliva, traditional candle box grave marker, and single flowers of your choice for attendees to place on the coffin graveside. All of these details will be discussed during the funeral arrangement.
We also offer cremation services for those who prefer it, though it is not the traditional method of burial. If you choose cremation, we can still provide a traditional Greek Orthodox funeral service before the cremation takes place.
Prices for different types of funerals are noted below and any of these can be customised for a Greek Orthodox funeral.
…there aren’t enough words in the English or Greek languages to express how I feel with everything you’ve done for my BB and I.

What Happens at Greek Orthodox Funerals?
There are a few traditions that are typical of most Greek Orthodox funerals:
- The night before the funeral the priest will lead a brief Trisagion, usually in our chapel of rest.
- The ceremony is usually held at one of our local Greek Orthodox churches where the priest leads the congregation in funeral prayers and hymns.
- An open coffin (where permissible) for mourners to pay their respects to the deceased.
- There is then another Trisagion at the graveside or similar and mourners place individual, single flower stems on the coffin.
For those less familiar with these traditions, we will guide you through each step, throughout the funeral arrangement and also on the day of the funeral itself.
