Harrison’s St Paul’s Cathedral COVID-19 Memorial Donation

A permanent COVID-19 memorial is set to be built inside St Paul’s Cathedral, London, and Harrison Funeral Home is honoured to have made a donation towards its construction.

In May 2020, St Paul’s Cathedral set up an online memorial to help people remember those we have lost to the pandemic. Titled ‘Remember Me,’ the platform is for people of all faiths and none, and is open for entries for as long as is needed.

Such was the public reaction to Remember Me that a permanent physical memorial will now be constructed inside St Paul’s Cathedral, at its entrance, in dedication of all those who died as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Taking 12 months to construct, the memorial will be the first of its kind in St Paul’s for over 150 years.

Harrison Funeral Home is honoured to have played our part in helping to have this physical memorial built. As keyworkers in the funeral sector, our team was on the frontline throughout the pandemic and witnessed its effects firsthand, sadly all too often. Remembering plays a great role in assisting with bereavement and this memorial will hopefully help many in that respect.

Over £2.3million – the cost to deliver the project – was raised entirely through crowdfunding and other donation sources. In a post on Instagram on 29 May 2021, representatives of St Paul’s Cathedral said, “We are hugely grateful to everyone who has contributed towards setting up the memorial.”

They continued, “Thank you for sharing with us in bringing the memory of those who have died because of the virus into St Paul’s, and enabling those who remember them to be welcomed. In the coming years the memorial will continue to touch people’s hearts and ensure we do not forget the loss, the pain and the courage we have seen through the pandemic.”

We at Harrison’s look forward to visiting the memorial when it is ready in 2022.
